Spring 2017 Trend Report

Even though the cold January wind is blowing and the daily fashion uniform is a puffy parka, Sorel boot, leather legging, cashmere scarf and some fabulous fun hat, its never too early to think about Spring and the new fashion trends that warmer weather will dictate. The international fashion weeks from Paris, London, NY and Milan wrapped up in November and I’ve identified some of the key looks to start your styling daydream….

This “borrowed from the boys” pattern was seen everywhere in all adaptations. Inspired by menswear, reinterpreted in softer fabrications and modern silhouettes.

Stripes Trend Spring 2017

Feminine frills and ruffles were a consistent detail throughout all collections. Featured head to toe, seen on dresses, blouses, skirts, shirtings, handbags and sandals.

As a stand out color for Spring,  shades of yellow were seen as a background for florals, dominant in a print, used as an accent, and boldly as the all over color.

Yellow Spring 2017 Trend

Traditionally a cold weather option, leather is now the Spring choice for luxury.

Last years cold shoulder trend evolves and gets more interesting with total attention to the arm. Look for a single bare arm, one shoulder exposure, arm cut outs, and slit sleeves.

Modern dressing incorporates metallics into daytime looks and silver is the platinum choice. It was apparent in maxi skirts, tee shirts, blouses, dresses, and punctuated as a subtle detail.

TRENCH COATS...not so classic

The classic trench coat was reinterpreted in new and fresh ways. Reimagined with asymmetrical hemlines, frayed edges, and bathrobe silhouettes.

The female hourglass form was defined and exaggerated with emphasis on the waist.

Belted trend 2017

This utilitarian fabric looked fresh and exciting when redesigned and embellished. Interesting new silhouettes makes khaki a must have.

In the months to come, as you browse the fashion magazines and websites, and visit your

favorite boutiques, look for these top trends to be highlighted. Fashion is an ever evolving entity… my advice, take a risk. Abandon the “go to black” and think silver, yellow, ruffles and pinstripes to inject some newness into this year's spring closet!
